One Sleepless Night

In the quiet of this night
You have filled my soul with love,
With the soft gentle whispers
That come only from above.
I remember all you've given me
Throughout this life of mine.
Even though I drifted far from home,
You threw out a precious life line.
Now as I bow my head in prayer
And fall upon my knees,
I thank you for this sleepless night
That you have granted me.
For you see a quiet solace
Has entered this dark space.
You've blessed me with your presence,
You've filled me with your grace.
You've shown this weary servant,
With the scarred and tattered heart,
You're refining all your gifts
So I'll have more to impart.
Now I'll slumber in sweet peace
As you watch o'er me this night.
For I have your promise I'll be renewed
When dawn breaks with your Glorious Light!

This poem is very special to me it was written one night in May 2002. It had been a stormy night and I couldn't sleep. So I got up and started writing. Then in the morning while it was still very cloudy and dreary I put the finishing touches on it. Just as I wrote the words "Glorious Light" the sun burst through the clouds with the brillance of the heavens, as if to say, "My promise is fullfilled." And I felt renewed!

I chose this set since it was a sleepless night that drove me to my desk and pen.
